RITUAL DANCE at DEVADASI with Monika Nataraj

Since ancient times, women have danced in ritual celebration – invoking energies of the Universe, manifesting beauty, opening portals to subtle realms, and transmitting blessings through their bodies. As temples and places of worship flourished, the sacred act of dance was used as a sublime vehicle of prayer, healing, and honoring of the Divine.

"Dance is the hidden language of the soul.” ~ Martha Graham

The role of ritual and ceremony as an overall container, and within the dance, will be explored in these 4 workshops, which can be taken separately or together, as each has a specific theme focusing on different aspects of the Goddess: the feminine face of the Divine.

“Just as the ancients danced to call upon the spirits in nature, we too can dance to find the spirits within ourselves that have been long buried and forgotten.”  ~ Anna Halprin

NOVEMBER 2-3, 2019

This weekend is dedicated to dancing the mysteries of Egypt. The four unique rituals that Monika is offering weaves sacred belly dance, intuitive movement, breathwork, toning, inquiry, meditation and magic into a deep inner journey of remembrance. Activate the codes and keys of ancient Egypt and discover how you can apply this wisdom to your life today.

Monika first ventured to Egypt in 1991. This launched her passion for belly dance and the goddess path which she shares internationally.

1. Saturday, November 2 ~ 11:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

ISIS: Isis is the Egyptian Mother Goddess of magic, fertility, healing and serves as a protectress of the dead. She brings the power of the Lunar and Solar energies together. Isis helps us reclaim our inner voice and true knowing. As High Priestess, she restores mysticism to our lives through ceremony and ritual.

Please wear GOLD, plus symbols of ancient Egypt such as a head piece, body paint, temporary tatooes, jewelry, etc. You are welcome to bring a sacred item for the altar.

2. Saturday, November 2 ~ 3:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.

HATHOR: A sky deity, Hathor is the Egyptian Goddess of music, dance, joy, love, sexuality and maternal care. Hathor is often depicted with a headress of cow horns and a sun disk. She reminds us of the sacredness of our expression and our ability to manifest on many levels.

Please wear a combination of BLUE, GREEN and BLACK, plus symbols of ancient Egypt such as a head piece, body paint, temporary tatooes, jewelry, etc. You are welcome to bring a sacred item for the altar.

3. Sunday, November 3 ~ 11:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

SEKHMET: A warrior goddess as well as goddess of healing, Sekhmet is depicted as a lioness, the fiercest hunter known to the Egyptians. Sekhmet helps us acknowledge our strong emotions, especially anger, and to offer it to her to devour, and transform.  Sekhmet personifies willpower and self-confidence. She shows us our passion and fire.

Please wear RED, plus symbols of ancient Egypt such as a head piece, body paint, temporary tatooes, jewelry, etc. You are welcome to bring a sacred item for the altar.

4. Sunday, November 3 ~ 3:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.

ISIS ~  OSIRIS: Dance the tale and wisdom of the murder of the god Osiris, a primeval king of Egypt, and how Isis, his sister and wife, was able to transform into a bird, reassemble Osiris and give birth to Horus. This ritual is a journey of death, rebirth and the creative power of the feminine.

Please wear WHITE and BLACK, plus symbols of ancient Egypt such as a head piece, body paint, temporary tatooes, jewelry, etc. You are welcome to bring a sacred item for the altar.

So much goddess energy to dance!  Join us for magic and mysticism.

Feminine archetypes are powerful symbols to awaken and bring balance to our being. The duality of the pristine, pure, untouched Virgin is often seen in opposition to the wild, raw, fully sensual Whore. In this ritual of sacred and erotic dance, incorporating psychological exploration and magical insight, we delve deeper into these two aspects of ourselves. We discover wholeness in our bodies and psyche as we integrate this potent, holistic way of the mystical woman. Please wear a combination of black and white clothes and be prepared to dive deeper into your sexual and sublime self.

Lakshmi is the Indian Goddess of beauty, prosperity, abundance and generosity. She bestows on us the ability to manifest our deepest desires and guides us on grounding our spiritual aspirations into this world. Lakshmi governs the harmonious flow of offering and receiving. She brings wealth of heart. In this unique ceremony, we will invoke the energies of Lakshmi through dance movement and meditation and awaken our ability to manifest our dreams and attract more beauty and love into our lives. We will also tap into the heart opening power of raw cacao in our ceremony. Please wear pink or red (or a combination) along with gold accents.
